Iris Tan

CERTIFICATION:

Bachelor of Applied Science (Chiropractic)
Masters of Clinical Chiropractic

PROFESSIONAL WORK HISTORY:

Iris completed her Chiropractic studies at RMIT in Melbourne and received the Excellence Award in Research for her final year.

Iris started practising as an Associate Chiropractor in Malaysia, where she is originally from, and worked in a sports rehabilitation-based practice for 2 years before deciding to continue her career in Brisbane 3 years ago.

Apart from practising in clinic, Iris is also currently teaching in the Chiropractic Bachelors program at Central Queensland University (CQU) and is clinical supervisor in the CQU Chiropractic student clinic.

SPECIALTY/INTEREST AREAS:

While practising in Malaysia, Iris worked with competitive gymnasts and ballet dancers, giving her extensive experience in re-training strength and postural stability. Upon returning to Australia, to further expand her knowledge in postural stability, she obtained certification as an exercise instructor in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation.

Iris has developed an interest in treating knee and ankle injuries. This is as a result of her experience in soccer, one of the most popular sports in Malaysia. This interest has led her to further her knowledge in this area by completing a Diploma in Football Medicine through FIFA that emphasised accelerating rehabilitation from injuries sustained in a competitive environment.

While English is her first language, Iris is also fluent in Cantonese, conversational Mandarin and Malay.

WHAT MAKES IRIS A GREAT CHIROPRACTOR?

Iris believes that every patient encounters various factors that may affect their road to recovery, whether it is their working environment, everyday life responsibilities, or even mental motivation.

As a practitioner, she feels it is important to listen and work together with patients to help resolve their musculoskeletal injuries with Chiropractic manual therapy, rehabilitation exercise and gentle non-manual therapy treatment for patients who are uncomfortable with joint ‘cracking’.

WHAT DOES IRIS ENJOY DOING OUTSIDE OF WORK?

After sustaining a knee injury, Iris had to stop long distance running and found a new passion in pole fitness. Nowadays most of her strength and conditioning regime is focussed on achieving pole movements that she is currently working on. She spends a lot of her time in the pole studio practicing whenever possible.

Iris has also always enjoyed hiking and since moving to Queensland, she has enjoyed the opportunity to explore many new trails.
